One of the greatest opportunities in our churches today is to minister to teenagers. The middle school and high school years are a trying time for our young people, especially in a world that is constantly digressing and diminishing its morals. It is our mission to see that the young people at Valley View Baptist Church come to a realization that there is something in their life that never digresses, diminishes, or changes: God and His Word. Here at Valley View, we want young people to see the importance in knowing Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, knowing the truths and instructions He has for them in His Word, and knowing what His will is for their lives. Philippians 3:10 states, “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.” Our desire is to see your teenager reflect those words in Philippians by showing them, not just the alternative, but the solution to their ongoing struggles, temptations, and questions: a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our 6th-12th grade students are divided into two separate Sunday School classes: guys and girls. Our girls class is taught by Kaylee Meade while the guys class is taught by Bro. Mike Meade. This is a valuable time of growing in God’s Word as we seek to look deeper into the passages of Scripture and grow together through group studies. Our Sunday School classes meet in our Cross Family Life Center building every Sunday at 10:00AM.
Wednesday Night Ignite
Our mid-week teen Bible studies meet every Wednesday night from 6:30-7:30 in our Teen Center building, located behind the Cross Family Life Center. This is our primary Bible study time as a youth group. We have a time for competitive games and open discussion at the beginning and end of our service together, but the central focus of the evening is the devoted time for our Bible study lesson (with this goal in mind – to provide practical applications from God’s Word for every-day living as teenagers). We call our Wednesday night services “Ignite,” because our prayer each week is for God to ignite a fire within their hearts as they walk out our doors to know and serve Him. The lessons are taught by our youth pastor, Mike Meade.
Our Youth Choir meets for practice every Wednesday night from 7:30-8:00, immediately following Wednesday Ignite. A number of those in our youth group have a desire to sing, and we believe there is no greater opportunity to use this passion and talent than within the church ministry. All teens are welcome to attend as we practice songs that are uplifting, God-glorifying, and reflective of the same songs we sing in our regular services. The Youth Choir is given the opportunity to sing in our regular services on a number of occasions throughout the year.
Monthly Youth Activities
We all know that teenagers love to have a good time. That’s why we make sure to have youth activities for them every month, as an opportunity for our young people to engage in fun-filled outings among like-minded Christian teenagers. This is a great opportunity for our youth group to grow closer together and have a blast while doing so. Our youth activities consist of baseball games, hockey games, putt-putt golf, laser-tag, bowling, and many more! Our youth pastor, Bro. Mike, has plenty of youth activity schedules on-hand for anyone interested in the upcoming activities.
Each year in June our young people have the privilege of making a trip to Indian Creek Baptist Camp of Mauckport, Indiana for an amazing week. This is the highlight of the year for our youth group. They experience a jam-packed week of crazy contests, fun-filled activities, air-conditioned cabins, great food, a fully-loaded swimming hole with waters slides, and (most importantly) spirit-filled worship services with uplifting Christian music and Christ -honoring preaching from God’s Word. Many hearts have been touched by the Lord through this amazing camp ministry, and we do not want any to miss out. Feel free to visit indiancreekbaptistcamp.com for more info or contact Bro. Mike Meade.
Throughout the year our youth group holds fundraisers in order to raise funds for our summer trip to camp and to help with the cost on upcoming renovations being done to our Teen Center building. Many of the fundraisers consist of luncheons provided to our church family on Sunday afternoons, following our morning worship services. This is a great opportunity for the teens to work together as a unit to accomplish our goals.
