The Truth About Thorns (2 Corinthians 12:7-10)

Pastor Justin Pratt, March 6, 2016
Part of the Miscellaneous series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

We all have thorns, things that knock the wind out of us and get us down. Maybe it's discouragement. Maybe is depression. Perhaps it's a financial thorn. For some of you it is a physical thorn. For others, it might be a spiritual one. But regardless of what it is, we all have them.

Since we all have them, must learn to deal with them, and God's Word tells us just how to do it! Perhaps God will give you the Grace to overcome your thorn. But even if He doesn't remove the thorn from your life, rest assured that He will provide sufficient Grace to endure, and overcome.

Hebrews 11 shows us that whether you overcome, or whether you endure, both paths obtain a good report.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10

7And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
